Studying The Human Soul [#1654]

Question:

Greetings to the Rav. In recent years, a strong will has been awakened in me to help people, especially when it comes to issues of the soul. The Rav’s shiurim about the topic of the human soul has greatly been of influence to this desire. It is clear to me, Baruch Hashem, that the holy Torah is the basis of life and the basis of helping others. With the help of Hashem, I am continuing to learn Torah and to spend much of my energy in my Torah learning. Along with this, I think that it is important for me to begin some kind of practice in which people can be helped, in regards to issues of the soul. I am wondering if perhaps I should learn a certain method of therapy that I can use on my clients, or perhaps I should learn more in-depth about the human soul. I am currently learning about the “One-Brain” method. I am seeking the Rav’s advice on this topic. Is there any course the Rav can recommend for me to take, or is there a certain method of therapy that the Rav would recommend? Or is this a personal clarification that applies only to my own soul? Much thanks to the Rav, and may Hashem give you the strength to continue illuminating the way.

Answer:

Learn [about the soul] only from the holy words [of the Torah and Sages] without mixing in any foreign views. In the process of your learning [about the soul], clarify which parts of this study are applicable to your personal soul.
