QUESTION:
The sefer Sheairis Yisrael says that during davening up until Shema and Shemoneh Esrei, a person should feel connected to a tzaddik. Why shouldn’t a person feel connected to a tzaddik by Shema and Shemoneh Esrei?
ANSWER:
It is because during the recitation of Shema Yisrael, it is the time of yichuda illah (unifying Hashem above in the spiritual realm) which is the mode of Ain Od Milvado, in which there is nothing besides for Hashem, and therefore during Shema there is no concept of connecting to a tzaddik, only to Hashem alone.
